Obituary for Roy Haywood Jones

Roy Haywood  Jones
Roy Haywood Jones, 90, passed away Wednesday at Lawndale Manor and rests peacefully with his Savior. Roy was born in McGees Crossroads in
Johnston County to Archie and Ava Wood Jones.
After serving in the United States Army, Roy became a charter member of the Benson Unit of the North Carolina National Guard and later served as commander of the unit. He later retired from the North Carolina National Guard. Roy also retired from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, where he served as an Assistant Commissioner and was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor James G. Martin. Roy remained active after retirement playing golf and working at Jones Paint and Hardware.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; daughters, Diane J. MacRae (Jim) and Vicky J. Slone; son, Van H. Jones (Tonya); stepdaughter, Teresa Caviness (Marvin); eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sister, June J. Olive; and brothers Jaylon P. Jones (JoAnne) and Billy Jones (Sue).
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by sister Lucy J. Smith; and brothers Archie Mac Jones and Rudolph W. Jones.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC. Funeral service will be held after visitation at 12:00 -1:00 pm at Montlawn Funeral Home. Burial with military rites will follow the funeral service at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family sincerely expresses their appreciation to the staff at Lawndale Manor and Liberty Hospice. Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 6020 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.
