Obituary for James William "Jim" McCurdy

James William "Jim"  McCurdy
Ret. Major James “Jim'” William McCurdy of Prosper, Texas passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 5, 2017 at the age of 71. He was born on October 25, 1946 to Robert Vearl “Bob” and Betty Jane (Sharp) McCurdy in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim met Nancy Sue Barbour at The School of Officer’s Training for The Salvation Army in Atlanta, Georgia. They were married on August 11, 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy from May 1967 until January 1970 serving on the USS Enterprise and was medically discharged in 1970. Jim & Nancy served as ministers in The Salvation Army in the Southern Territory and retired as Salvation Army Majors in 2012. Upon retirement, they moved to Texas to be with their only daughter, Charity and her family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ret. Major Nancy B. McCurdy; his daughter, Charity M. Gilson and husband, Jeff; his grandsons, Brandon and Jordan all of Prosper, Texas; his sisters, Mary Ann Hilson of Winter Haven, Florida and Janet Lynn McCurdy of Polk City, Florida; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Betty McCurdy of Winter Haven, Florida.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
