Obituary for Perry Proper Jr.

Perry Proper, Jr, 87, passed away on August 11, 2017.
He was born in Hudson, NY, on June 14, 1930, to Perry Proper, Sr. and Helen Adams Proper. He is preceded in death by both parents.
Perry served in the Air Force in Alaska and Virginia during the Korean War, from 1951-1955. He was Assistant Postmaster for the US Postal Service in Hudson, NY. He then became Postmaster in Claverack, NY where he retired from this position in 1992.
Perry was associated with many civic and fraternal organizations during his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hudson, NY. He was active in the Elks and rose to be the Grand Exalted Ruler of the lodge in Hudson, NY. He and his wife Barbara had opportunities to represent his lodge at many national conventions all over the country.
Perry was a member of CH Evans Hook and Ladder Company in Hudson, NY, as a volunteer fireman, Assistant Chief and Chief of the Hudson City Fire Department. He also served as President of the Columbia County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
He served on various community and church boards throughout the years. Perry’s life was a model of service to his country, family, church and community.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Milligan Proper, son David and daughter in law Ann Marie, son Don and daughter in law Gail, grandchildren Jennifer Proper, Meagan and husband Chris Porter, and Will Proper, as well as many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends for a celebration of Perry’s life at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, August 16th, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Buffaloe Rd, Garner, NC. A reception will follow the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Perry’s name to the Lord of Life Lutheran Church Memorial Fund (2100 Buffaloe Road, Garner, NC 27529), or to Transitions LifeCare (250 Hospice Cir, Raleigh, NC 27607).
