Richard E. Evans passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Louisburg, NC on December 3, 1929 to Robert Evans and Fanny Shearin, he was raised in a modest home in Franklin County, on the family farm raising tobacco. In the mid 1950’s Dad moved to Raleigh with his wife Iris Burnette. He was called to the ministry at an early age and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the small towns of North Carolina. To support his growing family of three children, he continued his education at Wake Technical Community College learning a new trade in photography. Dad retired as the photographer of the North Carolina Museum of Art in 1983.
Our Father will be remembered for his devotion to the Lord, his outgoing personality, sense of humor, dedication and love for his family, and his sense of style. We will forever be thankful for such a wonderful Father and will miss him dearly.
The family is forever grateful for the dedicated care of our Father by his best friend Chris Ransdell. His devotion enabled Dad to peacefully stay at home during the last 5 years of his life.
He is survived by son Anthony B. Evans and wife Beth, Reid Evans and wife Theresa, daughter Marsha E. Nivison and husband Karl, and step-daughter Maryanne Holloway. Grandchildren, Jason, Kelly, Alexis, Leslie, Sarah, Kyle, and Stephen, great grandchildren, Joshua, Cooper Emma, and Elainea, sisters Julia Elam and husband Bill, Jan Dickerson and husband Harold, many nieces and nephews and first wife and mother of his children Iris B. Stewart. Preceded in death by second wife Mary Evans, sisters Nadine Redmond, Eudora Apple, brothers Atlas, John, Thomas, and Grandchild Jeremy Evans.
