Helen Lewis Riddle died Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Born February 12, 1919 in Augusta, GA, to Leone Vaughn Harris and Louis Edward Harris, she moved to Raleigh with her mother and stepfather, Walter F. Lewis, in 1926. Helen attended Hayes Barton Elementary School, Needham Broughton High School, and Intemont Finishing School in Bristol, TN.
Helen married Hubert Eugene (Bubba) Riddle, Jr. in 1936. They made their home on East Whitaker Mill Road in Raleigh, where Helen was a homemaker. In addition to raising her four children, Helen also babysat for many and was affectionately known as “Granny.”
She was predeceased by her husband Hubert E. (Bubba) Riddle Jr. in 1980, son Hubert E. (Gene) Riddle III in 2003, and grandson Hubert E. (Bert) Riddle IV (Stokes) in 1987.

Survivors include children Peggy Hopson, Clayton; Allen Riddle, Princeton; Kathi Booth (Jim), Garner; and grandchildren: Chuck Hopson, Raleigh; Helen Rock (Dave), Cary; Vaughn Hopson (Kim), Clayton; Kim Clodfelter (Gary), Clayton; Jackie Unverzart (Jason), Clayton; Josh Benner (Taylor), Smithfield; and great-grandchildren: Tara Stokes and sister Amber King, Clayton; David Yokeley (Katie), Fuquary-Varina; Bryan Yokeley, Clayton; Christina Yokeley, Garner; Ginger and Christopher Hopson, Clayton; Anthony Terrell, Garner; Lilly Benner, Smithfield; one great-great Grandson.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, January 14 from 12:30 – 1:30 at Montlawn Funeral Home, followed by funeral service at 1:30. Burial will follow services.
