Darlene Matthews Barefoot, 80, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. She battled cancer just as she lived her life, with a gracious sweet attitude. She was born in Harnett County to the late Hoke Matthews and Hattie Belle Watson Matthews. She was an employee of Nationwide Insurance for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1991. She and Sherrill enjoyed many years of touring the US in their motor home where they made many long lasting friendships. She and her sweet smile will be greatly missed.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2016 at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Sherrill Barefoot; sister, Gloria Smith of Morehead City, NC; many loving friends whom she worked and camped with as well as her loving Maltese dog, Corky.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of SECU Hospice House for the excellent care given to Darlene while she was there.
