Obituary for Alton James Stansbury

Alton “Al” James Stansbury, 81, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born January 26, 1935 in Roanike Rapids, NC to the late Charlie T. Stansbury and Irene Borrell Stansbury. After graduating from high school Al attended NC State University for 2 yrs. He worked much of his life as a draftsman and building inspector. He worked for the NCDOT as a bridge inspector and then briefly with the railroad system until his retirement in 2008. He was very involved in his church as a choir member, usher and board member. He truly believed in the power of prayer and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Fearing Stansbury, a son, Charles Robert Stansbury and his wife Tamra, 4 daughters, Kimberly Pfeif and husband Scott, Courtney Stansbury, Angela Thompson and husband Stuart, Tammy Grice; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Nancy Stansbury of Strongsville, OH, 2 nieces, Linda Rose and husband Howard, Karen Ann Nottingham and husband Brian of Denver, CO and one nephew Bruce Stansbury and wife Sue of Strongsville, OH.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Linwood Stansbury and sister Louise Davis.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday July 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Linwood Stansbury and sister, Louise Davis.
The family has asked that flowers be omitted and contributions made to Alzheimer’s North Carolina, Inc., 1305 Navaho Drive, #101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
