Mary Azalee Johnson Hilliard was promoted to glory on June 12, 2016, at the age of 89. Mrs. Hilliard was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Troy J. Hilliard, her parents Herman M. and Zula Betts Johnson, her brothers Roger Lee Johnson and Edward Johnson. She is survived by her brother, Ernest Johnson and wife Mable Johnson. Also her sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson.

“Also surviving: my “daughter” by “love” and “choice” Gloria Barnette, my son-in-law, Charles Barnette, and my granddaughter by love and choice Tabatha Barnette. So many nieces and nephews which I love very much. I especially wish to thank my nephew David Holleman and wife Elizabeth for helping me and loving me so much. The flowers that I will have at my funeral do not compare to the “flowers” my family and friends gave me everyday.” The family wishes to thank Mr. Chinh Hoang and staff of The Haven of Fuquay and the staff of Pruitt Hospice of Raleigh for the love and care given to our loved one during her illness. Services celebrating Mary Azalee’s life will begin with family receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 16 at 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 12 NOON at Montlawn Funeral Home 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC. Interment to immediately follow services at Montlawn Memorial Park.
